Russian woman gets world's biggest lipsBarcroft

We've reported on the world's largest breasts, documented the most extreme celebrity plastic surgery, so how about the world's biggest lips?

Kristina Rei, a rather peculiar-looking Russian woman, has had over 100 silicone injections in her lips as part of her quest to get the world's biggest trout pout.

The 22-year-old, from St Petersburg, has shelled out more than £4,000 on the injections and says she still doesn't think her lips are big enough.

She said: "I think I look fantastic and it makes me happy. Sometimes strangers shout names at me in the street - like big lips - but I don't care. I want to go more extreme. I want to look like a cartoon character. I am addicted to it. I love it."

Kristina said she always thought her natural lips were too small, which prompted her to start having the injections.

She explained: "My older sister Ira had beautiful, full lips and I loved Jessica Rabbit's huge lips. She was my idea of the perfect woman."

"From the age of four I thought my lips seemed thinner than everyone else's and I decided when I was quite young to get them enhanced. In Russia, you see adverts for silicone and Botox on TV all the time."

Despite admitting that the injections were "extremely painful" Kristina said she loved the effect of having a huge pout.

"My big lips have helped boost my confidence. Even my parents are happy for me. They really don't care about my appearance. Some of my friends have told me I shouldn't go any bigger but I'm not satisfied yet."

She's convinced she needs more surgery: "I have no health concerns about what I'm doing. Nothing has gone wrong so far. I haven't decided how big yet but they are definitely too small at the moment."

"When I can afford it I want to enlarge my breasts from a C-cup to a DD, change the shape of my nose and I want to make my ears pointed like an elf. It's good to be different."

Should Kristina be stopped from having more surgery or should she be able to tweak her looks as much as she likes? Let us know below...

Britney Spears admits she struggles to find the will to work outPA

Britney Spears may be strutting her stuff onstage every night in tiny costumes but she's admitted she still finds it hard to get motivated to work out.

The singer, who has two children, said: '"Trying to get up and go work out in the morning [is so difficult]. I haven't worked out in, like, two weeks."

"Sometimes it's hard to be motivated. But once you get up and do it you feel like you've conquered the world."

The 29-year-old told Stylist that chocolate was her favourite sweet treat: "I love Scores, with the caramel in the middle, and every once in awhile if I'm really hungry then a Snickers bar is good."

"And M&Ms are great, Hershey's Whoppers are great, Rasinettes ... Twixes are great, too. And the new Hershey's Cookies and cream, too."

The pop star revealed the ingredients for a dream holiday: "It would be with my children of course, and my boyfriend Jason, and really that's it. We'd probably just go skiing somewhere really beautiful and have hot chocolate, in a cabin..."

When asked if she was a good skier, Britney admitted: "No...but I enjoy the process of learning. I do get frustrated when I see little kids go really fast beside me but for the most part, once you get going and you've got an idea of how you're going to ski, it's kind of fun."

Should Britney take her gym sessions more seriously or does she have the right attitude? Let us know below...

Why dreaming helps us cope with painful memories

Why dreaming helps us cope with painful memoriesCorbis

A new study has proved that the importance of a good night's sleep shouldn't be underestimated.

Shakespeare famously wrote in The Tempest that we "are such stuff as dreams are made on" and researchers have found that dreaming is an essential part of helping us to process and deal with our emotions.

The study, carried out by scientists at the University of California, discovered that Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep lets us cope with intense emotions.

Study author Els van der Helm said: "During REM sleep, memories are being reactivated, put in perspective and connected and integrated, but in a state where stress neurochemicals are beneficially suppressed."

The research split 35 healthy people into two groups and asked them to look at 150 emotion-provoking pictures in two sittings while brain activity was measured by a MRI scan.

One group looked at the pictures in the morning and the evening and stayed awake, while the other group looked at the images in the evening, slept and then looked at them again the next morning.

The people who had slept said they had a far less emotional response to the pictures and the scans showed a significant decrease in the reaction of the amygdala in the brain.

The study's co-author Professor Matthew Walker said: "The dream stage of sleep, based on its unique neurochemical composition, provides us with a form of overnight therapy, a soothing balm that removes the sharp edges from the prior day's emotional experiences."

Are dreams as important as researchers think? Let us know below...

Model who had world's largest breast implants removed after near-death scare has another opBarcroft

Achieving a world record for something - be it as the globe's fastest pizza eater, the wealthiest person on the planet or having the most children - is very important to some people.

In fact, like the woman who wants to have the world's largest lips, health concerns appear to fly out the window in the face of getting to the number one spot.

Model Sheyla Hershey nearly died after her record-breaking 38MMM breast implants became infected and she had to have them removed.

However now the 31-year-old has undergone another breast implant surgery in a quest to return to her former cup size.

She's now a 38KKK and in the process of having her implants gradually enlarged with saline to restore her Guinness World Record-holding bust.

Sheyla has had 30 breast surgeries and had to have the implants taken out in an emergency operation in June last year, which left her with saggy skin.

She explained: "Not having my breasts was killing me, I didn't know if I could make it through 2012 without them. My breasts had become part of me and I was deformed without them. I felt like I had lost a leg."

The 31-year-old mother-of-one, who has spent £60,000 on boob jobs, did not listen to the concerns of her husband and doctors about not having another operation.

"My husband knew that I was going to Cancun in Mexico to get my breasts reconstructed. He didn't know that I was going to have them re-inflated with saline and that I planned to return to my previous size of 38MMM, but I was desperate to claim my status as having the world's largest breast implants," she said.

Sheyla may face some competition from adult film star Chelsea Charms, who appeared on This Morning in May to show off her 164XXX chest, which she claims is the world's biggest.

Sheyla plans on having more plastic surgery next year to finally regain her former size. However even that may not be enough to satisfy her.

She said: "I never think my breasts are big enough. Even now I look in the mirror and I think they are small. Because of my frame, the surgeons say I physically can't go any bigger than I was before. I will be happy with 38MMM, because I would rather they were that size than not at all, but I would like to be bigger."

Is Sheyla deluded, mentally unwell or just living out her dream? Let us know below...

Is Martine on a mission to gain weight?

Is Martine on a mission to gain weight?PA

Insiders say that Martine McCutcheon is set to revitalise her career by releasing a fitness DVD - but first she needs to gain a bit more weight so that her transformation will be more dramatic.

The former EastEnders star showed off her new size 16 figure at the Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards in London last week - and has since been inundated with offers to work towards releasing a diet and workout DVD.

Martine is set to marry her boyfriend, singer Jack McManus, next year, and is now expected to bring out a DVD to show how she got in shape for her big day.

And despite previously admitting that she's happy with her curvy shape, it sounds as if the proposed six-figure deal will be difficult to resist.

She has now reportedly been told to eat as much as she likes to get even curvier, before dropping from a size 16 to a size 10 in time for her wedding.

A source told the Daily Mirror: "Martine and Jack are blissfully content and have been spending a lot of time together chilling on the sofa, basically eating what they want.

"Martine didn't set out to put on weight and feels as though she went to bed slim one night and, three months later, woke up huge.

"But now she is back in the limelight it has been made clear to her that a lucrative fitness DVD offer is not he cards.

"With her wedding to Jack next summer, she has already had a few concrete offers to launch a bridal slimming DVD.

"She even had one offer from a US company to become the face of some slimming pills but obviously she would never encourage irresponsible dieting.

"At the moment the idea seems to be for Martine to eat whatever she fancies, possibly pile on a few more pounds, and then embark on a concerted weight loss regime.

"Apparently, the aim is to make the weight loss appear as dramatic as possible, taking her from a size 16 to a slim size 10."

Martine has previously admitted that she fluctuates between size 8 and size 14, and her last fitness DVD - Dance Body - became a bestseller six years ago.

Sinitta hints that Brad was better in bed than Simon CowellGetty/AP

Sinitta has lifted the lid on her past relationships with Brad Pitt and Simon Cowell - and although she didn't say outright who performed better in the bedroom, she certainly hinted.

When her fellow IACGMOOH campers asked her who was best in bed, she wouldn't answer and replied: "Who do you think?"

McFly's Dougie Poynter said he thought it would be Brad, to which Sinitta responded, "Why, because he's prettier?"

Dougie said that he thought Simon would be too "organised" but Sinitta wouldn't confirm or deny his suspicions.

Nevertheless, she seemed especially wistful when talking about the time she spent with Brad in the 80s.

She said: "He was beautiful with the most amazing body. I saw him for two years. He was fun, he was young and very sweet.

"Some ardent fan gave me a slap when I came out of a supermarket over the relationship.

"It was before he made Thelma & Louse but even I saw that movie and thought, 'Oh my God, what have I done?'"

She admitted that Brad looked "hot" when he was naked but when asked about the size of his manhood she simply told McFly's Dougie Poynter, "[It was] much bigger than yours, Dougie."

She met Simon Cowell in 1983 when he signed her for Fanfare records. They started dating when she was 14 and he was 25.

She met Brad a few years later when his biggest role had been as an extra in Dallas.

She said: "None of them were well-known when I dated them, I was more famous than them.

"Simon is now a global superstar but I was his first artist. He was the record company and I was the pop star."

Cancer patients - and GPs - ignore warning signs for months

Cancer patients - and GPs - ignore warning signs for monthsCorbis

A new report by the Royal College of GPs has found that many cancer patients wait for two months or more after they first experience symptoms before they consult their GP - and more than a third of GPs then dismiss their symptoms as minor ailments.

By the time patients do visit their GP, almost half of cancers have already spread beyond the original tumour by the time they are diagnosed, reducing the likelihood that they will survive long-term.

The report found that overall, 12 per cent of patients were recorded as having symptoms for two months or more before they saw their GP.

The report says: "There were some surprising delays relating to alarm symptoms - 12 per cent of those with breast lump, 26 per cent of those with change in bowel habit and 20 per cent of those with rectal bleeding delayed for more than two months before consulting.

"This underlines the importance of communicating messages to the public on the importance of seeking medical advice promptly."

Professor Greg Rubin, professor of general practice and primary care at Durham University, led the study.

He says: "One of the reasons is people feel that they may be wasting the doctor's time, or they don't think it's important. These views are particularly held by older people. There can also be a fear of what the diagnosis might turn out to be."

Even when patients do visit their GP, the study found that many doctors are struggling to diagnose cancer.

The report found that 38 per cent of people saw their GP at least twice before being referred to a specialist - and even when a family doctor suspects that a patient has cancer, they may have to wait several weeks for a hospital appointment.

The cancers which appeared to be the most difficult to diagnose included those of the lung, ovary, pancreas and stomach.

A Department of Health spokesperson said: "Despite recent improvements in cancer care, cancer survival rates in England are still lagging behind other countries.

"It is widely recognised that late diagnosis of cancer is the key reason for this, which is why the early diagnosis of cancer remains a key priority.

"Our Cancer Outcomes Strategy sets out the direction for improved cancer care and aims to save an additional 5,000 lives a year. As part of this we are committing over £450million over the next four years to increase early diagnosis."

Cake and Eat It: Clementine, polenta and almond cake

Cake and Eat It: Clementine, polenta and almond cakeJassy Davis

This week's recipe is for a clementine, polenta and almond cake - a Middle Eastern-inspired cake that's gluten-free, dairy-free and full of zesty winter flavours.

When it comes to gluten-free and dairy-free baking, I always like to go through my cupboards and see what I have that is naturally wheat-free and lactose-free before I hit the shops in search of specially developed products. For a start, it's thriftier (I almost always have half a bag of ground almonds tucked away somewhere). I also really like the results you get baking with ground nuts, polenta or buckwheat instead of wheat, and using puréed fruits and vegetables or oils instead of butter. The texture and flavour are often more interesting than fluffy wheat-and-butter sponges.

One of the best gluten- and dairy-free cakes is Claudia Roden's orange and almond cake from her cookbook A New Book of Middle Eastern Food, published in 1968. It's a gift of a cake for coeliacs and the wheat- and lactose-intolerant. Made by boiling oranges until they are pulpy, then folding them into almonds, sugar and beaten eggs, it's a sticky, syrupy sponge that makes a great dessert.

Nigella Lawson gave the recipe an update by swapping the oranges for clementines, and this clementine, almond and polenta cake is a further twist on the original. I swapped some of the ground almonds for fine polenta, giving the cake a firmer, chewier texture, and added in some chopped rosemary, which gives the cake a husky, woody note.

Because the clementines are puréed whole, including the skins, the cake has a slightly bitter, marmalade flavour, which offsets the simple sweetness of the sugar. The fruit purée, almonds and polenta all combine to make this a very damp cake that will keep really well for at least a week wrapped in foil. It gets stickier as the week goes on and I think it's one of those cakes that are actually best made a few days before you want to eat it.

However, it's also very good warm from the oven. If you're not lactose-intolerant, a spoonful of sour crème fraîche goes really well with it.

Cake and Eat It: Clementine, polenta and almond cakeJassy Davis

Clementine, polenta and almond cake
20 minutes to prepare, 3 hours 15 minutes to cook
Serves 8-10
Cook's note: Suitable for vegetarians, gluten-free, dairy-free
6 clementines
Olive oil, for greasing
6 large eggs
350g caster sugar
100g ground almonds
150g fine polenta
2 tbsp fresh rosemary leaves, chopped
Icing sugar, to dust

Place the clementines in a pan so they're a snug fit and cover with cold water. Cover with a lid, place over a medium heat and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer gently for 2 hours. Drain and leave to cool completely.

Preheat the oven to gas mark 4/180°C/fan oven 160°C. Lightly grease a 22cm loose-bottomed cake tin with olive oil and line the base with baking parchment. Set aside.

Place the whole clementines in a food processor and pulse to make a purée. Whisk the eggs and sugar together for 5 minutes with an electric whisk until pale and thick. Fold in the clementines, ground almonds, polenta and rosemary.

Scrape into the cake tin and bake for 1 hour or until firm and a skewer inserted into the middle comes out clean. You may need to cover the cake with baking parchment after 30 minutes to stop the top burning. Cool in the tin for 15 minutes, then turn out onto a serving plate. Serve warm or cold, dusted with a little icing sugar.

A new survey has found that one in four people now spend longer online than they do asleep.

The survey, which was commissioned by Sky Broadband, found that more than one in four men and one in five women spend more than six hours a day online - and 51 per cent of Britons admit to suffering from "e-anxiety" if they are unable to check their emails or Facebook page.

One in 20 people check their emails more than 20 times a day - the equivalent of once every 45 minutes - and one in seven checks their social media accounts more than six times a day.

The survey also found that one in three people check their personal emails more than six times a day outside of work.

But experts say that this isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Jon Blumberg from Sky Broadband said: "We're a nation of digital pragmatists, with 74 per cent of people saying they feel more knowledgeable because of the internet and 72 per cent feeling more up to date with what's happening in the world.

"That's exactly as it should be - the internet should help you live your life, not take it over."

Brits crave 13 hugs per dayGetty

A new study has found that we spend an hour every month hugging.

The research, commissioned by Nivea, has found that we enjoy an average of 13 hugs each day, and devote 9.5 seconds to each one.

What's more, 41 per cent of people say that they would like to have even more hugs - and we'd most like to give David Beckham, George Clooney, Dermot O'Leary, Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams a squeeze.

Holly Willoughby, Cheryl Cole, Lorraine Kelly, Kate Middleton and Nigella Lawson were voted the most huggable women.

Although most of us turn to our partner when we want a hug (69 per cent), it's not because we're hoping that an affectionate gesture might turn into something more passionate.

More than a third of us ask for a huge because we want to be comforted or to give us a boost if we've had a tough day.

Which is probably why 14 per cent of people ask a close friend for a hug and nine per cent ask their mum.

The research said that women are more likely to ask for a hug when they're feeling down, although a third of those questioned said they were uncomfortable with physical contact.

One in seven said public displays of affection were inappropriate and almost a third thought that hugging in the workplace should be avoided.

British women are the fattest in EuropePA

Shocking new figures reveal that British women are the fattest in Europe, with almost one in four being classified as obese.

The European Union's statistics agency Eurostat collated the data from 2008 to 2009 and said that the percentage of obese younger women was particularly notable in the UK.

The figures show that 16.6 per cent of British 18 to 24-year-olds are obese.

In Germany, 15.6 per cent of women were found to be obese, compared to 12.7 per cent of French women and 9.3 per cent of Italian women.

British men didn't fare much better, with 22.1 per cent classed obese. They came second only to Malta, where 24.7 per cent of men are obese.

Tam Fry, spokesman for the National Obesity Forum, said that many women in the UK struggled to lose weight after childbirth - and the situation is made worse by a shortage of midwives and health visitors.

He believes that education is the key to cutting obesity rates and says: "For a significant number of UK women knowing what food to buy and how to cook it is foreign territory. Mainland Europe doesn't have this problem.

"Until the UK puts domestic science properly back into the school curriculum, many women will continue to rely on cheap, ready meals and fast, processed food for their families and themselves."

Would you try the champagne diet?Corbis

If you thought the Sweetie Diet - where you eat Haribo and not much else - sounded a bit extreme, how about the Champagne Diet?

Hot from the US comes a weight loss plan which relies on restricting your calorie intake but allows you the luxury of a couple of glasses of bubbly a day.

The diet's creator Cara Alwill Leyba says on her blog that she struggled for years to lose weight and tried drinking champagne on the advice of a co-worker.

The site explains: "Cara noticed that whenever she drank champagne, she felt more beautiful. She stood taller at the bar when holding a delicate flute in her hand."

"She wound up shedding pounds by trading in sugary, mixed drinks for bubbles and also shed a few bad ex-boyfriends. She was unstoppable."

She lost a stone-and-a-half and is about to publish a book, The Champagne Diaries, about her experience.

Cara told the Daily Mail: "I encourage 'glamourising' your meals. Don't order the fatty cheeseburger with fries and cola. Instead, get a smoked salmon bagel with a mixed green salad and a glass of champagne. Start putting the best into your body."

A typical day on the diet would involve eating a bagel for breakfast, a piece of fruit as a snack, goat's cheese pizza for lunch, fish and vegetables for dinner, and drinking a couple of glasses of champagne to wash it down.

Is the champagne diet a good idea or a waste of money? Let us know below...

Exercise first if you want to lose weightGetty

What comes first when you're trying to lose weight - diet or exercise?

According to researchers at Harvard University, you may be more successful in dropping those unwanted pounds if you begin your weight loss plan by exercising.

The team carried out a review on weight loss studies to find out if exercise affected the brain and how much people ate.

The study's leader Miguel Alonso-Alonso wrote in the Obesity Review journal: "Physical exercise seems to encourage a healthy diet."

"In fact, when exercise is added to a weight-loss diet, treatment of obesity is more successful and the diet is adhered to in the long run."

"Regular exercise improves outputs in tests that measure the state of the brain's executive functions and increases the amount of grey matter and prefront connections."

In conclusion, the researchers said exercise could "help us to resist the many temptations that we are faced with everyday in a society where food, especially hypercaloric food, is more and more omnipresent."

One-Pot Winter Warmers: Italian Stuffed and Braised Squid

One-Pot Winter Warmers: Italian Stuffed and Braised SquidHelen Graves

This week's winter warmer is a recipe for stuffed squid that is very simple to prepare, yet looks and tastes impressive.

Squid are perfectly designed for stuffing; in the summer I fill them with mixtures of rice and chorizo, minced pork or prawns and sling them on the BBQ, while in the colder months I like to stuff them Italian-style, braising them in a rich and spicy tomato sauce.

If you're squeamish about cooking squid, don't be; your fishmonger can do the prep for you (or buy frozen, ready-prepped squid) and the cooking itself is easy as long as you obey the golden rule, which is to either cook it very quickly or for a fairly long time - anything in the middle and you'll end up with rubber.

For this recipe, I've made a stuffing using breadcrumbs infused with parmesan cheese and anchovies, which season the crumbs without being overwhelming. The whole lot melts into a gooey filling, which is a lovely contrast against the firmer squid.

The chilli-prickled tomato sauce is intense and would also be a great sauce for pasta; in this recipe though, it's just ripe for the dunking, so make sure to have plenty of bread ready.

Italian Stuffed and Braised Squid (serves 4, with bread)
4 largish squid, cleaned, tentacles reserved
2 slices stale white bread, crusts removed and blitzed to crumbs
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Zest of 1 lemon
30g parmesan, grated
8 anchovy fillets, finely chopped

For the Sauce

1 small glass white wine (about 175ml)
500ml passata
1 medium white onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 red chilli, finely chopped
Small handful parsley, finely chopped
1 teaspoon sugar
8 black olives

Lemon wedges and crusty bread, to serve

You will also need cocktail sticks, for securing the squid.

Boil the tentacles for 3 minutes, then drain and chop finely. Mix with all the other stuffing ingredients and season with black pepper only (the anchovies and parmesan are salty enough).

Give the squid a rinse, and then fill each one about ¾ full with the stuffing, taking care to push it gently down to the end. Don't be tempted to fill them more than ¾ full as they will shrink during cooking and the stuffing will expand. Secure the end of each squid by weaving a toothpick through it.

Heat some oil in the pan and fry the squid briefly on each side, just to get a little colour on them, then remove them from the pan and set aside.

Add the onion to the pan and cook for about 5 minutes, until it begins to colour. Add the garlic and chilli and continue cooking for a further couple of minutes, then add the squid and splash in the wine, letting it bubble up furiously for a few minutes. Add the passata, sugar and olives.

Cover with a lid and cook gently for 40 minutes, turning the squid halfway. Taste the sauce and add a little salt and pepper if necessary.

Scatter over the parsley and serve with lemon wedges and bread for mopping up the sauce.

The 42-year-old has opened up to Closer magazine and posed for a set of stunning nude photographs where she reveals a decidedly steamy side.

She said: "I feel a lot more body confident now than I did in my 30s. I think there's something about hitting your 40s where you think: 'The pressure's off - I'm never going to look like Cindy Crawford, but I'm very happy to look like me.'"

Andrea added: "When posing like this was suggested, my instinct was to shy away. But I won't have many more opportunities to do these kind of photos at my age, so I decided to go for it!"

"I know life really is too short not to throw caution to the wind, so I'm going to enjoy it. One day it'll be lovely to look back and say: 'You were quite sexy once, Andrea!'"

The presenter, who's married to builder Steve Toms, revealed how a brush with death in the summer has made her feel more positive about life. She lapsed into unconsciousness in hospital after she suffered an allergic reaction to antibiotics following surgery to repair an umbilical hernia.

She said: "I couldn't breathe at all - it was like my air was slowly being cut off. It was absolutely terrifying, but the worst thing was seeing the panic on Steve's face."

"I fell unconscious and yes, Steve believed he'd lost me. But, in the grand scheme of things, it was half an hour of absolute awfulness and, thankfully, they were able to control the reaction with adrenalin and oxygen."

Andrea had the hernia diagnosed after she gave birth to her daughter Amy in 2006 [she also has a 10-year-old son] and explained: "since then, my tummy had stuck out like a doughnut. It made me feel very self-conscious - I can't tell you how often I was asked if I was pregnant."

After having the operation she said she felt more body confident:""The best thing is that I'm not in pain any more, but also I now have a flat stomach again, like it was before I had the kids."

"I'm no longer ashamed to take off my clothes in front of Steve. Of course he never minded - he loves me regardless - but having a bit of self-confidence does wonders..."

Andrea recently lost a stone doing the Cabbage Soup diet, going from a size 14 to a size 10, and has kept her slim figure by not eating meals after 8pm and only drinking alcoholic drinks on the weekends.

This week's Closer magazine is on sale now (Tuesday).
